Furniture disposal and collection
Need an unwanted sofa, mattress or wardrobe taken away? Magnus Removals can help you plan a furniture disposal collection, with the items, access and collection arrangements assessed before you book.
Based in Uxbridge, we welcome enquiries for local collections and furniture disposal across London. Send your postcode, photographs of the furniture and your preferred date so we can check the job and provide a tailored quote.

Unwanted furniture you need collected
Tell us exactly what needs to go, whether you are replacing one item, making space at home or removing furniture left behind after a move.
Sofas and armchairs
For sofa disposal, include the number of seats and whether the item is a corner sofa, sofa bed or recliner. A photograph showing the whole item helps us understand its size and construction.
Let us know which room it is in and whether there are narrow doors, stairs or tight turns on the route out. Please flag electric mechanisms or unusually heavy sections when requesting your quote.
Mattresses and bed furniture
For mattress removal, tell us the mattress size and whether you also need a bed frame, headboard or divan base collected. These should be listed separately so the enquiry reflects the complete job.
Mention any damage, damp or contamination before collection is agreed.
Wardrobes and other bulky furniture
For wardrobe disposal, include approximate height, width and depth, and tell us whether it is freestanding or fitted. Photographs of the doors, fixings and route out help us assess whether dismantling may be needed.
You can also ask about tables, chairs, drawers and other unwanted furniture. Please list every item rather than assuming additional pieces are included.
Collection from your home: access comes first
A collection needs to be planned around both the furniture and the property.
When you enquire, tell us:
- Which floor each item is on.
- Whether a lift is available and large enough for the item.
- Whether stairs, narrow corridors or sharp turns restrict access.
- Where a collection vehicle can stop.
- How far the furniture must be carried to the vehicle.
- Whether your building requires a booked loading bay or collection slot.
If an item will not fit through the available route, ask about dismantling before booking. The method, suitability and any additional work need to be agreed for that item.
There is no need to move heavy furniture yourself simply to obtain a quote. Explain where it is and let us assess the collection arrangements.
How much does furniture disposal cost?
The price depends on what needs collecting and the work involved in removing it.
The main factors are the number and size of items, their weight and construction, access, carrying distance, dismantling requirements and the appropriate disposal route. Your postcode and collection arrangements also matter.
For a useful quote, send clear photographs and include all items in the same enquiry. Ask for confirmation of what the price covers, including carrying, loading, transport, disposal and any agreed dismantling.
If your item list or access arrangements change, let us know before collection so the scope can be checked.
How to arrange your collection
1. Send your item details
Include photographs, approximate dimensions, postcode, floor and preferred collection date.
2. Discuss access and the collection scope
Tell us about stairs, lifts, parking, dismantling and any deadline, such as a replacement sofa delivery.
3. Agree the booking
Check the quoted items, collection arrangements and any preparation required before confirming.
If you need a collection at short notice, call with your postcode and item details. Availability must be confirmed before you rely on a particular date or time.
Getting ready for collection
Empty drawers, wardrobes and storage compartments, and remove personal belongings from anything being collected.
Keep furniture you want to retain clearly separate from items intended for disposal. Clear smaller obstacles from the access route where it is safe to do so, and tell anyone providing access which items are included.
Please do not leave furniture in a communal area or outside without first agreeing the collection arrangements and checking the property’s rules.
If you also have other household waste, include it in the enquiry. Our waste and clearance services may be more suitable for a mixed collection.
What happens to collected furniture?
The appropriate route depends on the item’s condition, construction and materials. Reuse, recycling and disposal are different outcomes, and not every collected item can be reused or recycled.
Some upholstered seating requires particular handling and treatment. Do not cut apart a sofa or mix its filling with other waste to prepare it for collection.
If you would prefer usable furniture to be reused, raise this before booking so the available options can be discussed.
Furniture collection in Uxbridge and London
Magnus Removals is based in Uxbridge. For a local collection or a job elsewhere in London, send your postcode so we can confirm coverage and scheduling for the particular items.
Access matters as much as distance. A ground-floor collection with nearby parking needs different planning from an upper-floor flat with a shared stairwell. Including those details at the start helps us assess the job properly.
Furniture disposal FAQs
Can you collect just one sofa or wardrobe?
Send us the item details, photographs and collection postcode for assessment. A single-item enquiry should include the same access information as a larger collection, including floor, stairs, lift availability and parking.
Can you collect a mattress and bed base together?
Include both in your enquiry, with the mattress size and details of the base or frame. They are separate items and should both appear in the agreed collection scope.
Do I need to move the furniture outside?
Do not move heavy furniture outside simply to request the service. Tell us where it is currently located. Indoor or outside collection arrangements, safe access and any carrying work should be agreed before booking.
Can you dismantle furniture that will not fit through a doorway?
Yes, we dismantle suitable furniture when needed. Send photographs and approximate dimensions; any additional charge is included or agreed in your quote.
Is furniture collection free?
Do not assume a furniture disposal collection is free; request a quote for your items. If furniture remains usable, you could first explore resale, giveaway or a reuse organisation’s collection service. Acceptance depends on the organisation and the item’s condition. Upholstered furniture has additional reuse considerations. Environment Agency reuse guidance. See our rubbish removal cost guide.
Can you collect furniture on the same day?
Yes. Same-day and urgent collections are available, subject to availability. Call with your postcode, item list and photographs.
Will all my furniture be recycled?
Usable furniture in good condition is donated to charity where possible, and the rest goes to authorised waste and recycling facilities. Some upholstered seating needs a specific disposal process.
Can you move my sofa to another address instead?
Yes—ask about furniture transport through our house removals service. Tell us both addresses and make clear that you are keeping the sofa rather than disposing of it.
Are you insured?
Yes. We are fully insured, including Goods in Transit cover, giving you extra peace of mind while your belongings are being transported. Cover is subject to the terms and limits of our policy.
