Plan the journey and the delivery together

A longer move needs a clear plan for both addresses. The distance matters, but so do loading time, vehicle access, the amount being moved and when someone can receive the delivery.

Your collection date and delivery date may be different. Discuss the proposed timetable before booking, including any fixed handover deadlines or restrictions at the destination.

If your dates are flexible, say so when enquiring. If they are fixed, explain which deadlines must be met so the available arrangements can be assessed.

Magnus Removals operates GPS-tracked vehicles to help manage and coordinate its moving fleet.

UK-wide moves and European enquiries

Moving to another part of the UK

Whether you are moving a full household or a smaller quantity of belongings, provide the collection and destination postcodes together with an inventory or photographs.

Mention any route or access considerations, such as an island destination, ferry crossing, narrow approach road or building with limited delivery hours. These details need to be considered before the move is booked.

For broader help with the household move, see our house removals service.

Moving from the UK to Europe

Contact us with the destination country and town, the contents you need moved and your preferred dates. We cover routes throughout the UK and Europe; tell us the destination so we can confirm the route and availability.

Before booking, establish the collection and delivery arrangements, the documents required for your particular move and who is responsible for providing them. Also confirm which route-related charges are included and which may be separate.

Requirements differ by destination and circumstances, so avoid relying on a general moving checklist as confirmation for your route.

Full moves and smaller part loads

The amount you are moving and your date flexibility help determine which options are suitable.

For a larger move, the vehicle and schedule need to accommodate the full inventory. For smaller consignments, a part-load arrangement may be possible, combining compatible loads on a suitable journey.

Part loads depend on route, available space and scheduling. They may suit customers with flexibility, but the collection and delivery arrangements still need to be agreed. Ask about the available options rather than assuming a shared load will meet a fixed deadline or always cost less.

From inventory to final delivery

1. Assess the contents and both addresses
Share a furniture and box list, photographs where useful, and access details for collection and delivery. Identify fragile, unusually heavy or specialist items.

2. Agree preparation and the service scope
Confirm packing requirements, any furniture dismantling or reassembly, storage needs and the proposed timetable. Our packing and unpacking services can be discussed as part of the plan.

3. Prepare and collect the agreed items
Have the contents ready according to the agreed arrangements. Keep destination labels clear and make sure the collection contact is available.

4. Transport the load on the agreed route
Keep your contact details available during the move and tell us promptly if access or availability at the destination changes.

5. Receive and check the delivery
Arrange for someone to provide access and direct items to the appropriate rooms. Check the delivery and raise any immediate questions with the team.

What affects long-distance removal costs?

A useful quote needs more than the distance between two postcodes. The cost can be affected by:

  • The volume, weight and type of belongings.
  • The vehicle space and crew time required.
  • Access, stairs, lifts and loading distances at both addresses.
  • Packing, materials, dismantling and reassembly.
  • The route and agreed collection and delivery schedule.
  • Part-load availability and date flexibility.
  • Storage or additional handling.
  • Applicable crossing, parking or other route-related charges.

For European enquiries, also establish how destination-specific charges and responsibilities are treated.

Check the scope of each quote carefully. Confirm what is included, any assumptions about access or contents, and what happens if the inventory or dates change.

When your belongings need storage

If your new property will not be ready for delivery, discuss storage services before the move.

Tell us which items need storing, the expected period and whether the final delivery address is confirmed. If your plans change after booking, contact us promptly so the storage and delivery arrangements can be reviewed.

Keep the belongings you will need during that gap separate from the stored contents.

Prepare for collection and arrival

Before moving day:

  • Confirm parking, loading access and any building permissions at both properties.
  • Check that large furniture can pass through the destination’s entrances and internal routes.
  • Label boxes by destination room and identify fragile contents.
  • Tell us about changes to the inventory before collection.
  • Keep keys, travel documents, medication and immediate essentials with you.
  • Make separate arrangements for your own journey and anyone travelling with you.
  • Ensure the delivery contact can be reached and has access to the property.

If you are relocating a workplace, our office removals service covers the business-specific planning that should accompany the journey.

Long-distance removals FAQs

There is no single mileage threshold used by every removal company. The practical question is how the route, load and schedule affect the move. Send both locations and your inventory so the work can be assessed.

The price depends on distance, load size, crew time, access, scheduling and additional services. Packing, storage and route-related charges can also affect the total. A quote should explain its inclusions and assumptions.

That depends on the route, the quantity being moved, loading and unloading time, and the agreed schedule. Do not assume the driving time equals the total moving time. Confirm collection and delivery arrangements before booking.

Part-load options can be discussed for smaller consignments. Availability depends on compatible journeys, vehicle space and date flexibility. Confirm the collection and delivery arrangements for your specific enquiry.

Yes. We provide long-distance removals throughout the UK and to Europe. Tell us the destination country and town, your inventory and preferred dates so we can plan the route and confirm availability.

Where possible, enquire at least two to three weeks before your intended move, and earlier for complicated routes or limited date flexibility. This is planning guidance rather than a guarantee of availability. Call to check short-notice options.

Yes. We offer full or partial packing, with materials supplied when required, and storage in our own secure facilities, booked weekly or monthly. Any additional cost is confirmed in your quote.

Yes. The assigned driver and team manage the move from collection through to delivery.

Yes, vehicle transport can be arranged as part of a long-distance move. Provide details of the car, motorbike or other vehicle when requesting a quote. Insurance cover for transported vehicles depends on the route and arrangement, so we will confirm it with you before booking.

Contact us as soon as you know there may be a delay. Reasonable waiting time is not normally charged, although significant delays may be, and we can hold your belongings in our own secure storage until you are ready.

Our vehicles have fully comprehensive business vehicle insurance, and your belongings are covered by our Goods in Transit insurance (£500 excess), subject to the terms and limits of our policy. Cover applies to moves within the UK; for moves to Europe or vehicles we arrange to transport, cover depends on the route and arrangement, so please check with us before booking.
